    73S - lamp wiring harness rubber plug-ins....difficulty re-installing

I am really struggling with trying to refit the front and rear lamp housing round rubber connectors into the body...for neither love or money can I even get them started as the rubber has turned hard and will not compress enough to squeeze them into their respective body hoes. No trouble with re-installing the interior connectors as they have obviously been protected from the elements through the years, but the four lamp connectors are a different story. Any hints would be greatly appreciated, and in that thought, is there some type of product that can be applied to the connectors to soften the rubber to a point where they will be more pliable? Thank you all

heat the plugs and I use a small amount of silicone grease and they will pop right in.

If the car was repainted, you may need to clean up the holes in the body to remove any excess paint.

I use hand cleaner, thick type that comes in a tub, non grit. Use small acid brush and spread a little on, when it dries it disappears.
