    What is This? Sensor?

    The car is a 1973.5 911T

What is this sensor. It hasn't been attached to anything in the past 30 years - at least.

My guess is that is was an old temp sensor used to plug the hole in the new chainhousing cover when the carrera chain tensioners were installed.

That's the thermo/time switch, used to engage cold start circuits on MFI and CIS cars. Normally installed in either the crankcase breather cover on MFI cars, or left chain housing cover on CIS cars. Yours appears to be in the right chain housing cover, so perhaps the thought it is a "dummy" used to plug a hole is correct. See if you also have one (connected to something we hope, if you still have CIS) over in the left chain housing cover.

My CIS left the building about 4 decades ago.

I have a feeling it's a dummy plug. That makes the most sense. It might look a little neater if I put a real bolt in there. Not today though.

Definitely should just have a plug in it. 1973.5 CIS cars did not use TTS. My updated covers came with plugs. On the positive side, if that is a good thermal time switch, you can sell it for a few dollars.
