1971 S Wheel wells painted with clear undercoat

I know this question comes up from time to time, but recently I've seen a new trend...

What is the consensus on painting the wheel wells body colour (Yellow in my case) and then painting clear or tinted undercoat over them?

What about the trunk and engine compartment? They could be done the same way.

I know the original process is a bid crazy, they primed everything, undercoated, and then sprayed body colour over the undercoat. I believe some parts (trunk and engine compartment) where hand painted with satin black over all of this.

One more item.... The suspension. Can I powder coat the suspension or is that not done in the concours world?

    Thank you in advance,
    MaseratiSD

Regarding the suspension pieces; powder coating is not concours. However, for longevity, several peeps have powder coated than painted over with the correct black hue. Just make sure you don't coat contact and threaded areas.
