    Color:Blue
    Engine:2.0 LITER FLAT SIX
    Transmission:4 Spd Manual
    Drivetrain:Rear Wheel Drive
    VIN:302273

    1966 Porsche 911
VIN: 302273 Probably the finest, original early 911 Beautiful special-order Dark Blue paint with Black leather seats Southern California Car Original owner owned for 44 years Complete with fitted luggage, books, tools, and extensive documentation This exceptional early 911, chassis 302273, was completed on October 4, 1965. Consistent with its build date and chassis number sequence, this car possesses numerous early-production details, including four-screw horn grilles, Solex carburetors, wood interior trim, and distinctive 911 script on the dashboard and engine lid.

As recorded on its Porsche Kardex, this 911 was painted a special-order Dark Blue (Dunkelblau- code 52017) and optioned with leather seats - a particularly rare feature as most early 911s were upholstered in vinyl. The elegant package was completed with headrests, tinted glass, and chrome wheels.

The 911 was first sold by Porsche dealer Schmidt + Koch in Bremen, Germany on October 20, 1965. It was delivered to Charles Whitely Jr., a sales manager for Continental Motor Parts in the US. He was there to collect the car for his friend and first owner, John Clyman, a 27-year-old resident of Santa Monica, California.

Mr. Clyman received his car by December 1965, and soon joined the Porsche Owners Club (POC). Throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, he participated in numerous POC events, including concours and rallies. After the National Maximum Speed Law was enacted in 1974, fixing the speed limit to 55mph, he parked the car in protest.

The 53,000-mile car was then stored in the family garage in Palos Verdes, CA, where it remained for 36 years. Unlike most cars that have been put away, this car was well cared for during its slumber. Clyman would religiously clean the car, protect it in the garage, and occasionally even service it.

John Clyman passed away in 2010, and his great nephew, Chris Nelson, acquired the 911 six months later with dreams of driving the car and keeping it as investment. Reality set in that bringing the car back to life correctly was beyond his capabilities, and he wisely passed on the family treasure to its next owner, Tony Shaneen of Illinois in 2013.

Shaneen had the car gone through and gently awakened from its long slumber. During the process, the Porsche was carefully returned to running order, making a great effort to keep it 100% original. All parts were cleaned and polished, but none were painted or restored. The engine was gone through and resealed by Porsche originality zealot, Richard Humphrey.

This 911 is a true survivor, retaining its original special-order paint and spectacular leather interior. Furthermore, it possesses the hallmarks of a time-capsule specimen, including original glass, rubber trim, important stamped components, and July 1965 date-coded wheels.

Beyond its superb condition, this special 911 is fully outfitted with a four-piece luggage set trimmed in black leather, Hella foglights, and an eight-track stereo (installed in period).
Also included are its original tool kit, jack, owner's manual, service book, and keys. The extensive file that accompanies the car contains a host of period documentation including an original 911 brochure, POC documents, and the original owner's handwritten notes.

An incredibly preserved Southern California car, custom ordered and retained by a single owner for nearly 45 years. "This spectacular 911 might be the most impressive unrestored early 911 I have every encountered" - Bruce Canepa
