Thread: Were these common brakes on a 70S race car?

Were these common brakes on a 70S race car?

So I bought this old race car that sat in the back of a friend's neighbor's house for over 25 years, it has very interesting brakes that I have never seen on a 911 before. Was this a common upgrade before the 930/RSR brakes? I have seen the Lockheed front brakes on a 1969 F5000 and CanAm cars of that period but never on a 911.
This 1970 911S has not one S part I could see on it, including a real vin#

Title should say "were these common.. oh well

    front calipers are hurst Airheart
rears are either Girling/ lockheed or early 917- they looked the same w/o the fins at the time. I am going with girling/lockheed in spite of the home made stamps on it

Chassis Engineering wheels were popular back then too

and yes very period mod for the 70's
looks like a typical PCA/ SCCA club level racer that might have seen some local imsa action in 2.5 class.

Thanks Dave!, That helps a lot and explains why It came with a 2.5L long stroke engine.
The car was originally from Cal. and saw hard service. The engine is apart but has good parts and why I bought it.

We had an Hurst/Airheart distributor/warehouse in the West San Fernando Valley back in the '60's through the early '80's

Certain models of of these brakes were the smallest/lightest available to fit, not only at the front of a lightweight drag car, but also within a small road racing wheel diameter....
