7R Fuchs: Can they have 4/70 date stamps???

Trying to confirm a potential sellers' claim...Can genuine/factory 7R wheels have 4/70 date stamps??? Seems late, from what I've read so far (I've worked thru about all of the wheel threads by now).

As far as I know, yes they can. My '72 had 7R's on the rear when I bought it back in 1993. The seller kept the 7R's because they were worth a lot more. I didn't believe him because I knew there were only 20 or so 911R's built. However, that was before I found out they continued to make 7R's well after the initial run of 911R's. I talked to the owner that was 2 owner's before me and he said he had purchased the wheels from Vasek Polak's kid here in the Portland, Oregon area. The previous owner thought he made out pretty good when he sold those wheels for $1,000. How times have changed.

My impression is the same as Gearby's. I've seen a pair with '70 as year (can't remember the month).

All in all, would be nice to know, which month/year combination members have in their 7R's. Mine are 2/68.

I have 6/70 and -/70 in the first set that I checked here at the shop. I'm sure I have some 71s in my records.
The last ones that I ordered from Porsche were on a close out sale in 10/72. (I think Mike Hammond bought 12 or so from the sale)
That is when they first made the late flat 7s easily available and they (Culver City) thought that the 7Rs wouldn't sell with the new wheels out...
And they were right...never sold another after the late 7s came out.
BTY there were not just for the 911R. They were available for all race cars until the late 7s came out.
And on street cars if you asked for them. The 7Rs were in the USA price/order book so they were available to any dealer for street installation.
I'm pretty sure they were at least 100 made, probably many, many more. The last inventory check that I did had 41 at Culver City alone.....

Ok, thanks for the lesson everyone, i do really appreciate everyones responses. Sounds reasonable. I was just curious, and hung up on '68 dates.

Remember that the 2.4 STs of 1971 had 7" (Fuchs) and 9" (Minilite) wheels.
Porsche would probably have a new batch made by Fuchs for the March '71 homologation.
Any 'left over' 7Rs would have been kept for race car spares or road car clients who knew better.
So the '70 and maybe '71 stamps could very well be correct.

I have seen "flat 7s" with 1/71 date stamps.They were in the race finish.
The street finish (like the ST press photo) dates seem to start 3/71.
Of course they could always be earlier but those are the dates that I have seen.
What is really strange is recently I refinished a pair of 5/73 that were in the race finish.....
These were as new never installed flat 7s with a 01 part number.
Never saw a flat 7 race finish even close to that date in the past......
Usually, when the production dept took over the part, the race dept discontinued their part.
The race dept was famous for getting cosmetic "seconds" from Fuchs.....or maybe a special order?
