    Question RE: '68 leather seats

    Friends,

i've looked in several places and have performed several 'searches' of our database, but cannot find a clear answer...

my car was delivered with "leather seats." when it says "leather seats," was the leather simply pleated, or did they emboss the leather with that basket-weave pattern, similar to the vinyl seats? does anyone have photos of an original EARLY '68 leather seat (without the headrest holes)?

thanks for any help and photos.

I have seen numerous COAs that are confusing when it comes to seats. Are you sure your car came with leather seats? If it did, they would not be embossed.

    Regards

    Jim,

    good question, as always...

the "Kartex" has the note "sitze in leder," and "leder schwartz." (although i took russian in high school, i think i got it right.)

so, if i understand what you are saying, the "scwartz leder sitze" were pleated, and didn't have the basketweave (or whatever embossing that is)?

My 1968S came with leather seats.
They are rough shape but original.
Here is what one looks like.

ahhh ... the "ventilated" "schwatrz leder,' ehh? i appreciate the photo VERY much.

does anyone have photos of a '67 'schwatrz leder' seat?

questions involving '68MY are always complicated. your photo appears to show a seat with the 'internal-mounted' headrest (pins in the seatback), and that is very valuable to know. the early '68 (july through december of '67) had '67 headrests, which mounted to the backs of the seats.

but this information helps, a lot. thank you, Fritz.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.

My 68S is made in Sept. of 67 and has the round head rest that mount to the back of the seat.
Porsche were all over the map in those early days, and especially 68 was really a mixed bag.

Maybe pic quality too bad, but it says for 1968 the inserts where embossed with the basketweave print...
