    Engine Compartment Seal Install

    Wondering if anyone who has done this has some installation advice before I really get into this. I have had to repair/reopen the slot that the seal slides into. Probably accidentally pinched whenever the engine came out. I am thinking of lubing up the part of the seal that slides into the slot. Thanks in advance for any information. Steve (1970T)

    no lube - clean carefully with steam or pressure wash while engine is out - when all dry use a gun with adhesive (which will lube) and sit in the engine compartment while working your way around

    repl. the sound pad at the same time and take care of any other tasks requiring good access then too

    No glue. I've never been able to slide one in. Sit in empty engine compartments and open up any crimped channel, the factory would knock the ends in to keep seal from shifting, not necessary IMO. Start at an end install seal in top grove and tuck in lower seal edge in lower channel. Use some rubber lube and real dull screw drivers or plastic tools. Trim any excess. Clean up any lube and your done. Gordon

    Soapy water works great for sliding it in.

    I hope you have the genuine seal,,,,it will be moulded with formed corners, the aftermarket ones are just a straight piece, the corners will not come out right.

    Thanks to all who replied. May try it this weekend. Soapy water sounds like the way to go. Unfortunately the seal is after market and I think it will not be quite right in the corners, but who will see it? Ugly job but better than the CV's. I am replacing the sound pad also. The original pad was really glued in there. Thanks again. Steve

    No no no. Slather that basterd in weatherstripping glue.



    Just kidding. As Gordon said, straighten the channel and use silicone spray liberally.
