    FS: @Coys Auction - 1970 Porsche 911S Factory car-The Vic Elford “Quick Vics” 911S

I usually post auction listings under the specific 911 type tread, but this one has a unique provenance . . . but no price!

    Auction Description:

Vic Elford was the only driver to race every version of the Porsche 917, and owned and drove this 911S during this most iconic period of Porsche racing. Vic Elford's lap records include: Targa Florio, Nurburgring, Daytona, Sebring, Norisring, Monza, Buenos Aires, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, Riverside… and Le Mans - where he was the first driver to lap at over 150mph in the Porsche long-tail 917 in 1970!

As a works driver, Elford was issued with chassis number 9110301339 by the Porsche works racing department as his daily driver and company car, and it would prove to be a regular sight throughout the UK and European race circuits where Elford was plying his trade for the Porsche factory.

The extensive file that accompanies the car even includes the factory handbook which list the owner of the vehicle as Porsche KG Stuttgart but assigned to works driver Vic Elford.

It also includes all period servicing stamps from Porsche UK agents AFN. Other interesting documents in the folder are French insurance documents from when Elford was driving the car to Porsche races on the continent, and an important letter from Elford himself to a later owner confirming this was his works car whilst a factory Porsche driver and his fond memories of it.

The letter concludes with Elfords explanation of how with the end of the 917 project and his transfer to become a works Alfa Romeo driver, he then purchased the car from the Porsche factory.

As part of the purchase the car was returned to Porsche for a “special service”, which included the installation by Porsche in 1972 of a works pre-production prototype 2.4 S engine as is fitted to the car today, as well as a number of other factory mechanical upgrades and the installation of the latest aerodynamic chin spoiler which the car still retains today. All of the above is extensively confirmed in documentation.

The car had other enthusiastic later owners in the UK, and there is correspondence from Elford throughout as well as a host of bills and receipts which are included in the folder which effectively document the cars service history for life.

Purchased by the current owner in 2004, a prominent personality in the historic Porsche world and beautifully finished in its original factory colour of light ivory, the bodywork is described as being in excellent condition. The originality the car retains is exceptional, even down to the correct and rare headlamp fitment with the interior of the car retaining all of its original, clock dials and instruments, correct weave carpets and other internal details and furnishings.

Of all the Porsche 911s's produced in varying forms, this particular car with its remarkable documented history is one of the most exciting and interesting examples we have seen on the market at any point.

A genuine factory owned works company car, supplied by Porsche for use by one of their greatest drivers, it ranks amongst other great factory owned drivers transport such as Jacky Ickx's famous Daytona Coupe given to him when he was a works Ferrari driver and indeed the amazing 300 SLR Coupes built by Mercedes as road transport for Uhlenhaut, their team manager.

The history of this car and its deep associations with one of the greatest racing drivers of all time as his personal machine, yet owned throughout by Porsche works themselves, is simply breath taking.

When factored in that the factory then themselves actually upgraded this car in 1972 for their great driver as he left to race for Alfa Romeo, is at the least truly romantic, and at its best a one of a kind event.

Works Porsche history, Works Porsche driver….Highly recommended.

Interesting --- the same was done to another Faktory Driver's car . . .

Wonder how these two engine numbers would compare?

    Anybody going to the auction?

    Yeah interesting.

    The Ex-Siffert Ex-Milou 1971 S with the prototyp 2.4l engine actually had 2.4S sportonatic.
It was not a factory upgrading however, the car was built as this and given to Siffert.
Was replaced in 2005 with a 2.2S engine (At that point the Ex-Siffert ownership was not known) and with this engine I was able to drive the car once with Milou/Thomas. The Sportomatic 2.4l was later found in Spain and the car sold off with both engines, the 2.4l Sporto as a spare.

That May 1971 built Ex-Siffert 911S Sporto never received upgrades (Siffert had it just a few months prior to his death) as period pics proove..but altready received a black 2.4 engine lid, the car was metallic green/tan interior and today sprayed slate grey/black int.

Wondering if Elfords received also the Sportomatic version of a 2.4S Engine, I guess not.

Yes. I expect to be at Castle Headingham event again this year. Quality and increasingly popular event for classic Porsche set in surroundings of a manor awarded by King William the Conqueror in which a castle was constructed by the de Vere family starting in late 11th Century.

Interesting car given ownership. Essex seems an appropriate venue to sell a quick London boy's former car. Coy's base is in Richmond quite close to me. They have a chap there pretty knowledgable on Porsche marque - has family links to Porsche Club GB iirc.

Well --- if you have some time . . . maybe take/share some pics of the event? There 'll prolly be many cars there that most of us here, in the US, will 've never seen

    And also --- if you can? . . .

. . . take a peek at that engine number in Mr Elford's old car? A pic would be nice but I'm not sure what you'd have patience for

I'm fascinated by the way Porsche let this sort of kit get out --- special/prototype/early-production engines . . . and who they gave it to

Interesting, Coys' interior photo of the car shows regular seats, 911MRP's picture from the auction site shows sport seats.
