Hood Latch and White Lithium Grease

Early in the summer, the car competed and the judges noted the hood latch, etc. was dirty and needed to be cleaned. (I do not know what all the parts are called.) As far as I know, it was never cleaned in the last five years. It was cleaned with citrus degreaser and I was going to squirt some white lithium grease on it.

But, I have always had a problem pulling the latch release inside the car ... just, don't have the strength, and needed two hands. It is surprising to me that I didn't land on my rear end. Now, the nice, clean latch is very easy to release.

Do I still need to put the white lithium grease on it? How do I do that?

And, on Saturday the car will be competing in Carmel, IN.

    Thanks,
    Candyce

I use the aerosol cans with the red plastic long tip, then I can aim the spray exactly where I want it. I use a Wurth clear lube, doesn't have to be that though. You want a little on the post that has the spring on it (the part bolted to the hood) then a little spray on that movable finger in the lower latch (on the front panel) Doesn't take much, just a momentary spray.

Pull effort may also be due to cable not latch issues.

C--- what Ed is referring to is called Wuerth HHS-K-- it is a high performance spray lubricant that is clear. First clean all the old grease and dirt out of the assembly then a couple of short bursts will do it.

When I judge this area I'm looking to see if it's clean and lubricated-- just clean with no grease =points off. Grease with dirt= points off. Grease no dirt= winner!
