BaT Description:
This 1971 Porsche 911E was acquired by the current owner about a year ago from its prior owner in Virginia and was subsequently modified for use in the 2019 Targa Baja California. Power is provided by a refreshed 2.7-liter flat-six with S camshafts and PMO carburetors, which is mated to a rebuilt Type 915 transaxle. The car has been repainted in Bahama Blau over a custom black tartan and leather interior with Rallye STS seats, and additional features include steel RS-style rear flares, carbon fiber front fenders, RSR-style fiberglass bumpers, body-color 15″ Fuchs wheels, and more as described in the listing. This 911E is now offered in California on behalf of the current owner with a clean Montana title.
Bodywork was handled by Karosserie Limited, and modifications include 1973 Carrera RS-style rear flares, carbon fiber front fenders, fiberglass RSR-style bumpers, and a rear decklid with a ducktail spoiler and a custom green plexi grille panel. The car has been refinished in Bahama Blue, a shade borrowed from the 1960s Volkswagen palette. The seller notes some chips in the finish and a 1/2″ scratch on the driver’s side quarter panel. The car has been fitted with a set of H4 headlight assemblies with HID bulbs, and LED bulbs have been used elsewhere.
The factory brakes and suspension have been replaced with components sourced from a 1985 911 Carrera. The braking system features rebuilt rear calipers, Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors, stainless steel brake hoses, and a 23mm master cylinder, while the sway bars are Weltmeister pieces measuring 19mm front and 22mm rear. The 15″ Fuchs wheels measure 7″ wide at the front and 8″ wide out back and feature body-color centers and polished lips. The seller notes some chips and flaws in the anodized wheel surfaces, and the fitted Toyo Proxes R888R tires measure 205/50 up front and 225/50 out back.
The cabin is trimmed in mixed black leather and black and gray tartan, which covers the Rallye STS seats, the dash fascia, and the door panels with custom door pulls and handles. Other modifications include a rebuilt pedal cluster with bronze bushings, lightweight RS-style carpets, red Coco Mats, Sabelt harnesses, a rear-mounted extinguisher, and a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel with Porsche horn button. The radio has been deleted and the VDO instrumentation has been retrofitted with LED lighting. Gauges includes an 8k-rpm tachometer and a 150-mph speedometer. 59k miles are shown, a few thousand of which were added under current ownership.
Power is provided by a later 2.7-liter flat-six that was reportedly refreshed 7k miles ago. Modifications include PMO carburetors, S camshafts, crank-fired ignition, WEVO engine mounts, SSI heat exchangers, and Elephant Racing finned oil lines and purge valve. The factory fan shroud and other engine tin have been replaced with RSR-style fiberglass items. Per the seller, the oil tank has been re-sealed and an oil and filter change was recently performed.
The car has been fitted with an updated fuse panel, as well as a Wurth-coated fuel tank. A front strut tower bar is installed, and a tartan trim panel has been added beneath the scuttle. Additional photos of the front trunk are provided in the gallery. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a rebuilt Type 915 manual transaxle sourced from a 1984 911. The transmission features replacement synchros, as well as a Stromski coupler and WEVO shifter with new bushings. Wurth undercoating has been applied, and the car has also been fitted with a Bosch starter and new ball joints.

I know it is a rough time for many out there, but for us blessed/fortunate ones confined to our homes, a bit of internet obsessing can help pass the time. I saw this one in my Yahoo news feed. Quite a powerful hotrod. Looks to be very well executed. And with a twin turbo 3.8 liter and a G50 6-speed, not for the faint of heart. On sale at European Collectibles in Orange County, CA. No price listed, but it certainly won't be cheap!

This 1971 Porsche 911E Targa is powered by a carbureted 2.7-liter flat-six sourced from a 1974 911 paired with a 911 five-speed manual transaxle. The car wears a dark metallic red finish and metal SC flares believed to have been fitted in the 1990s, and other modifications include GTS Classics fixed-back seats, 911S front brake calipers, 28mm rear torsion bars, a Tarett Engineering adjustable 22mm rear sway bar, and more detailed in the listing. The current owner acquired the car five years ago for use in autocross events and weekend drives, and service in the last 400 miles reportedly consisted of an oil change, a valve adjustment, new tires, and a nut and bolt check. This 911E is now offered on behalf of the current owner with a clean California title.
Originally blue (8410) the car was fitted with metal 911SC flares and a ducktail spoiler prior to being repainted in its present dark metallic red in the late 1990s. An RS-style bumper is fitted up front, and factory-style bumperettes have been retained at the rear. A set of European-market Hella H1 headlights wear chrome trim rings, and the seller notes that the front targa seal leaks and results in wind noise at highway speeds.
A pair of 15×7″ replica Fuchs wheels are mounted at the front, and the wider rear flares allow fitment of 15×8″ wheels from Performance Wheels Australia out back. A set of Falken Ziex ZE-912 tires measuring 225/50 have been fitted since the car was photographed, and a pair of 15×8″ replica Fuchs wheels are also included in the sale. Suspension modifications include adjustable Koni front shocks, Bilstein rear dampers, 28mm rear torsion bars, a Tarett Engineering adjustable 22mm rear sway bar, and Rebel Racing torsion bar housing bushings.
The cabin is upholstered in black leather with color-matching carpets and is equipped with a set of GTS Classics fixed-back seats and an aftermarket steering wheel. The car retains factory door panels with the lower door pockets removed, and a Sony head unit is installed in the factory location. Factory instrumentation includes a central tachometer with a 6,300 rpm redline, a 150-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a quartet of auxiliary readouts. The current owner recently had the odometer repaired, and just over 14k miles are currently shown. Approximately 20k miles were added by the current owner and true mileage is unknown.
Power is provided by a 2.7-liter flat-six reportedly sourced from a 1974 911. The cooling fan, cooling shroud strap, air cleaner housings, and cam covers have been color-matched to the exterior of the car, and other features include Weber 40 carburetors, aftermarket headers, and a quad outlet exhaust system with crossover. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a 911 five-speed manual transaxle with a short ratio “airport” gearset. Per the seller, the car was serviced approximately 400 miles ago with a valve adjustment, an oil and filter change, and a check of the head bolt torque.
A nut-and-bolt checkover of the underside of the car was also undertaken during the last service. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with aluminum 911S front calipers. Photos of the brake components with the wheels removed are provided in the gallery, along with photos showing the floors and the suspension components.
