    Frustrating intermittent running, miss.

    Help. Getting pretty frustrated.

    1971T. Stock motor. Rebuilt years ago but not many miles ago. Weber's rebuilt over the winter. "Tune up" done about 2 months ago. This condition has happened since I've owned the car. Coming on 4 years. When starting the car it's very easy to tell if it's running correctly or not. When not, seems like its on 5 cylinders. No rhyme or reason to it's desire to run correctly or not. Over the past two weeks it's been running perfectly. Every time. Today, drove it to work. Was running perfectly. I stalled it on an uphill. Waiting for a light. After the restart the crap running condition resumed. I started and restarted it a few times. Same condition. Through all this time it does not go from bad to good, while it's running. It starts, and is one way or the other. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Don

    You need to find out which cylinder is cutting out. While missing, if you can pull plug wires one at a time and find the one does not drop the revs, you will have a winner! Use insulated pliers, fiber if you have them, so you don't zap yourself into next week..
    Then I'd pull that plug and look at it. Take. Picture of it and post here. Maybe pull another plug from the opposite bank and compare them.

    Thank you. Silly question. Does it matter if I pull from the head or the distributor?

    I'd suggest at the head. Easier to be sure they click back on properly. Be careful.

    While Bill's method will work pulling the lead clear off puts a big load on the CD box and cap, because the spark has to go SOMEWHERE, often resulting in damaged components. I prefer to use one of those test lights, ground the clip, then just stick the point into the distributor cap tower, that will ground the spark giving you the desired test for a dropped cylinder.
