RIP Mike Callas - Rennsport - Sealy, TX

Just got the news that Mike Callas, owner of Rennsport in Sealy, TX, passed away unexpectedly last week.

As anyone who new him would have expected, Mike was working on Porsches right up until the end. I saw him just a couple of weeks ago and while he was feeling a little under the weather, I just assumed he'd always be there doing what he did best. Mike was a great guy and he'll be missed. He was the go-to Porsche mechanic for many of us in central/south Texas.

For anyone wondering, the shop will live on under Warren who has been with Mike for 18 years and is a talent in his own right.

    Oh my gosh.

I'm speechless. Words cannot express the loss for his family and friends.

The Porsche world has definitely lost one of the great ones.

While I never actually met Mike I know our paths crossed many times. He was also someone I could recommend for work in that part of Texas. Since he and I are about the same age I guess I better step lightly. Unfortunately this is "that" time for my generation.

Longtime lurker but never felt the need to post until now.

I knew Mike for more years than I care to admit and I'm saddened to hear of his passing.

Mike's love of Porsches, from the racetrack to the garage and beyond, was undisputed. He knew as much about these cars as anyone I've ever met and he was always happy to share that knowledge. I can't tell you how many times I called him with a stupid question and he always took the time to help. He was a special guy and he'll be missed by each and every one of us who were blessed to meet him over the years.

Frank Beck said it best. The Porsche world has lost one of the great ones. RIP my old friend. I'll think of you often.

Within days of moving down to Houston, a couple of years back, I was directed to Mike and Rennsport to look after my RS - on the day I first went there he had another RS in the shop - the place reminded me of my buddy's shop in UK - Gantspeed. There was also a silver 2.4 that he had serviced from new - the only mechanic to touch the car .... Anyway he kindly looked into my car over the following couple of years, with him completing some work just a couple of weeks before he passed. I recall him saying we are going to do this right for the long term - that alone shows me what a great guy Mike was.

    RIP Mike
