    rear stabiliser, as of when?

As of when was a stabilizer mounted on the rear axle on the 911? Was that first with the S?

i have seen the cirular stamping(the ones that help to find the correct position for the bracket) on 66(my) cars.so i assume available pre S.dont remember having seen them on 65...maybe a look at the parts catalog helps(to lazy at the moment).

I went the extra mile an pulled out my hardcopy parts catalog. It doesn't actually give a date or a chassis number for the first car with a rear stabilizer bar. On the rear stabilizer page it says:

    STABILISATOR HINTERACHSE FÜR 911 S
    FÜR 911 UND 912 SONDERWUNSCH

STABILIZER REAR AXLE FOR 911 S
    FOR 911 AND 912 OPTIONAL

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    11 901.331.571.02 Gelenkbolzen – Hinge pin 2 +
    12 901.501.180.20 Konsole – Console 2 +

    + = Teile Bild Nr. 12 + 13 werden nur zum nachträglichen Einbau für die Typen 911, 911 TU, 911 L und 912 benötigt.
Satz zum nachträglichen Einbau siehe RS/3.

    Parts fig No. 12 + 13 only required for subsequent installation type 911. 911 TU. 911 L. 912 .
Set for subsequent installation see RS/3.

(the note at the bottom about subsequent installation calls out the wrong numbers. There's no # 13--it should have been "Teile Bild Nr. 11 + 12")

The September 1965 (1966 model year) accessories list doesn't mention a rear stabilizer bar.

The fact that the rear stabilizer wasn't standard on any car before the 911S and isn't mentioned in the 1966 model year accessories catalog both point to it becoming available in the 1967 model year. Competition cars may very well have used rear stabilizers before 1967, and maybe it became optional sometime between September 1965 and the beginning of the 1967 model year, but until someone shows a factory bulletin or a 1966 CofA with a rear stabilizer bar, I'll have to believe it most probably started in 1967.

Txs Jim. Are we sure it was not on the MY 65 cars till summer 1965? I ask as my 301379 car was prepared for racing at some point and we find some remnants of mountings. We believe it was done later (welding is not typical Porsche), but just want to be sure the mountings were not welded on top of any original welding.

I found some pics of a restoration of my 301379 in 2008 (which I am completely redoing right now...). In the kardex I find nothing of a stabilizer option. If the below pics show it is original, than the conclusion would be that at the time this was standard already. Could well be.

I am looking for confirmation of that however, as it might still have been added later.

    Do these look original?

I scanned the drawing from the parts catalog:

    Items # 11 and 12 were for "subsequent installation."\

yep, looks the same on my car, but the second pic in post 8 is so strange that I start to doubt whether it is original welding.......
