Thread: Corner balance question

    Corner balance question

    Had my car corner balanced.
It's within 50 lbs front back diagonal.
    Handles great and tracks straight.
But it's about 3/8" lower on the left rear wheel arch.
its noticeably off and looks odd from the rear.
    How are those values?
Should I bring it back for tweaking?
Or be happy with how it rides

Hmmmm.... It is a left hand car yes?

Were you in the the car (or did they have dead weight in the drivers seat) when they balanced it???

The 4 set-ups I've had in 26 years has had the left rear about 3/8's higher at rest without me in it, when I climb in it's level.

What do you mean within 50 pounds front back diagonal? Can you post the numbers? The diagonals should be equal with you in the car.

Can't help with the height question since I have fiberglass fenders.

    Yes it's LHD.
I thought it would/should be higher on the left vacant.
I wasn't in it but told them my weight.
I would think with me seated, its even lower on the left.
I don't have the actual numbers, just that they were close by 50 lbs

I think you should be able easily to get the diagonal weights within 5 lb after moving the car around, 1 lb after just bouncing it to equalize the shocks. You can't really go by fenders because they could be bent, but I would expect the left side to be higher without driver.

This is a 912 corner balance.

I've done a few articles on this. Here's one of them. Here's another.

I think we both know that's not true. These cars were largely hand built and almost half a century later there are significant deviations from new. The individual corner weights, front and rear and cross weight will be helpful, can you post them up?

All that said-- since you are using dual batteries, and it's unlikely that you have altered the static weight distribution in the car--- what suspension bushings, what sway bar in the rear? Could you have a sticking sway bar that is causing it to hang funny? The sway bars are disconnected when setting the balance (of course)-- and when reconnected if the preload is funny, or you don't have an adjustable drop link, could certainly cause what you are seeing.
