Thread: 73 S - instrument glass bezel removal question.

73 S - instrument glass bezel removal question.

I am looking for information how to remove the glass bezel on my 73 911 instruments. The inside of the glass on several instruments is cloudy, and since the gauges work perfectly, I'd rather try cleaning them before taking a more aggressive step in sending them out to one of the instrument restorers. Thank you.

You can remove the bezel by carefully levering the return edge on the rear side outwards using a small screwdriver - working your way slowly round the circumference (repeatedly until the bezel can be removed).

When re-crimping the bezel after cleaning the glass I use the end of a piece of wooden dowel to press down on the edge with a towel under the face of the gauge to protect it.

Andy - thank you for the prompt reply. Can you please clarify what you mean by the 'return' edge?? Thanks!

By 'return edge' I mean the narrow section of the bezel that's folded over the back of the case of the gauge.

I thought my tachometer was good. I sent it out to get a new face and Buz at Seattle Speedometer found a capacitor (or something) going bad. These instruments do take maintenance. Something to think about.
