    Plating on calipers

What was the plating on early calipers (65-73). Weren't they actually clear (silver) zink? Thanks.

Does yellow zink fade to a silver color?

Thank you for clearing that up. I have many 73 and earlier 911/912 calipers that have never been touched and if there is not surface rust they have silver plating. Thanks Jim, I certainaly respect your input. Steve Lindholm

No, they have yellow zinc plating. Take one of them apart and look at the plating between the caliper halves that have not been exposed to the elements. It will be yellow zinc.

Send them off to PMB for full plating and restoration.

I've probably had 8 calipers analyzed with a spectrophotometer , ranging from '65 to '73 , they were all cadmium plated with a yellow chromate . Coincidence ? I don't think so . I don't get it . People want to cad plate nuts and bolts that were originally zinc and zinc plate calipers that were originally cad .

+1 on PMB as to quality. They did mine.
