    I understand that one can (but don't know how to) decode the serial numbers to determine the year of manufacturer. Can you help on this one? Thank you.

    Per DerWhite's --- D code Blaupunkt is correct for 72-73 911.

    Sounds like the experts have noted that this is correct for 1971. Thank you for the details.

    Thank you all...this will be going in a October 1969 build MY 1970 car which did come from the factory with a Frankfurt. I did recognize the face plate with recessed/brushed center bar which is used on my 73 car. Can either of you tell me the year of transition from the all chrome/flush face plate to the recessed/brushed center plate version?
