VIN '71 S Change in Number Font & Stars??

Hi, I dont post much on the site, but have read so many posts over the last year or
so while restoring my '69S. Great site. ;o)
Question: On 1971 911's: Does anybody know when they changed the font for the
VIN numbers by the gas tank/smgglers box?
I've seen '71's with the 1970 number style (they have the stars on both ends of
the stamped number). Then there are other 1971 911's with the 1972 & 1973 style
number fonts (which have the star/astrix style star on either end of the VIN number.
Does anyone know when, in 1971, Porsche switched number fonts... & also from the
star to the star/astrix symbol, on the ends of the VIN number?
The photos I've attached are photos of VINs from 1971 911's. See the differences?
Does anybody know what body number Porsche started switching to the 1972 & 1973
    style numbers and star/astrix?
    Should be interesting... ;o)

Thanks Chuck!! I don't know if I would have ever figured that out (the switch to the '72-'73 number font
and change of star style. Except that I happened to be looking at cars for sale and noticed the difference
    between two cars, same year.

Wonder if anyone else with a '71 would post of check their VIN's by the smugglers box to see what number
    car the change was made?

I also have a '71S that has the 1970 style numbers with the normal star (not astrix style stars). It's VIN ends
    with 0580.
Maybe someone has covered this topic in the past? And already figured out when the font change was made????

ALL the 1970 911's would have the star at the beginning & the end of the VIN number (by the gas tank/smugglers box).
ALL the 1972 911's would have the ASTRIX style star at the beginning & the end of the VIN number (by the gas tank/smugglers box).

Sometime in 1971 Porsche changed the style of star, and the font of the numbers for the VIN. We're trying to figure out what VIN
the change was made. ;o) Anyone else have a 1971 911 with the ATRIX star or the regular star? What's your VIN number? ;o)

Thanks Mfitton... so the change to '72 73 style numbers and astrix-style star
took place at least after car 0673. Wonder who has a car in the numbers 0800 or so?
