This is a Reproduction Orange Badge Right?

Saw this over on the bird: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...dge-901-a.html

It is not an original early one right?

I'm no expert but it's not like my original 72 badge. It's not like any I've seen before in that it has both smooth sections and pebbled sections on the back.

I've had a few of these and I'm not seeing anything specifically wrong with this one. I'd like to see close ups of the pins. I believe the pins are not threaded on the repros.

No evidence of solder as you point out but I would not rely 100% on that. I learnt about the short T from you Mike and this badge appears to have short Ts.

My guess is it's real but without holding in my hand it is hard to be sure.

I would say a dead giveaway that this badge is not original is that the bare metal that is showing through where the gold plating has worn off is a silver color. I believe the original early badges had a brass or copper color under the gold plating. Top badge is the one on Pelican bottom is an original badge with the gold plating worn off.

I think it looks like one of the new Porsche badges that has been 'aged'

Another tell tail sign is the lack of the horn from the torso, and the tail end.

Does anybody make a "decent" orange bar repro emblem or is the current Porsche repop the industry standard.? Not looking for something that'll fool the experts, but something that looks "somewhat" correct. Just cant drop $750-1g on a nice orig for driver 71 T. I do have new paint and using a "heavily patina'd" original would detract I think. Any input appreciated

Great point about the color after wear. And the hooves are different if you look closely. What's amazing is that the seller answered with confidence that it's "an original early badge."
