    Driver fender install/gas filler question

Hey Guys !! We are about to install drivers fender for final paint. I remember someone stating that one should do something with the gas filler prior to final install. Something easier done now than later. Thanks for any tips !! George Kehler 1971 911 S

you might have meant my answer. Be sure to loosen the bolt that holds the lid latch so that it can easily adjusted later if need be. Once the fender is on access to this is very tight, you don't want to be fighting a frozen bolt then. If you disassembled the latch arm, spring and cotter key you'll want to remove it via the above mentioned bolt, and assemble it out of the filler well , then reinstall before paint. That whole mechanism was painted assembled. You'll want to have the door off so you can easily install the plastic tube for the filler release cable and also the antenna. Then reinstall the door by reinstalling the hinge pins so as not to lose the gap alignment.
