advice for mothballing matching #'s engine?

I recently built a twin plug 3.2ss motor and 915 w LSD for my 1970T hotrod as i bought it with very well done butt welded turbo flares on it already and figured why not have a lot of fun with the car.

I am hoping to get some opinions of the best way to mothball the matching #'s engine and transmission as it was running well and would like to keep it with the car if i ever plan to make it a narrow bodied car again or if i have to sell it for some reason? (hope not)

Sadly i didn't have the foresight to video the car running with the motor in it!

I plan to build some rolling wooden crates for them but not sure the best way to insure the least ill to come because of the long term storage. I purposefully didn't clean up the exterior of the motor and trans as i figure the fine layer of oily grime might protect the surfaces from corrosion.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    1. Drive fuel tank as empty as possible. Last tank ethanol free if available in your area. Add Stabil or similar to fuel.
    2. Change oil and filter
    3. Remove plugs and spray fogging oil into cylinders
    4. Placed desiccant bags in air cleaner and exhaust. Tape off openings.

    Fantastic links Harry,

Spent the last hour going through them. Lots of great info there.

Clean it thoroughly with a non-acidic cleaner (don't use simple green)
Pickle it by filling it entirely with Aeroshell Fluid 2F, an anticorrosion aviation oil
Spray the outside of the entire engine with Tectyl or Wuerth cavity wax
Plug all holes where vermin can enter with solid plugs
Wrap engine in shrink wrap and store in a place of low potential energy

Simple Green is actually basic, not acidic. The MSDS says "pH ASTM D-1293: 8.5 – 9.5." But, you can definitely dissolve aluminum in a basic solution so if one were to use Simple Green flushing with neutral water to get rid of it is an excellent idea.
