This craziness is not that fun...

So, a couple of weeks ago I decided to put my car up for sale. I think I was going mildly crazy because I have not had enough time to spend with this passion as I would've liked. The problem with putting my car up for sale is that I got obsessed with Porsche once again, so I went from selling to actually wanting to buy another one. I was looking to buy something really fun. So I started looking at later models like '79 930s, post '73 911s or an early 911 built for street performance. But I soon realized how much things have changed in the market after I was gone for about 8 months. Not only prices of early 911s have gone through the roof, but it seems like prices for any decent SC or 80s Carreras with a Porsche stamp is above $40 or 50k... I understand the 930s being up in the $100-$200 range, but standard 70s SCs or 80s Carreras? And then all of a sudden every car in the market is concourse quality, people try to sell you rotten fish as fresh catch... Not fun... I wish it was 2011 again...

I have experienced this many times since the early 60s when it all started for me. I've missed out on cars that I would dearly love to have had, to experience for a while. See "The Biggest One That Got Away" thread. But now looking back my thought is be happy for what you have now. The market may tank, who knows, then get what you want. The bottom line though is if you have an old Porsche now you are fortunate.

Market is not as crazy as it appears on surface, people are generally asking for crazy money but cars are selling for much less. Find someone who is serious about selling and you'll do ok.

The owner states the miles are original, around 80k, but has not much in the way of records. The car has some original paint, Tangerine. Its in great condition, and has the rare rear bumper bar. Its dash is cracked and it has incorrect carpeting.

He wants $32K, but I am bit unsure of purchasing a car with no service records.

    Any thoughts? . . .

Lotta people saying the same thing --- + for a while, now, too . . . . 'cars cost too much' (Haven't they always?)
