    According to Dr. B. Johnson ("The 911 & 912 Porsche - A restorer's guide to authenticity"):
    "The first cars produced featured a mushroom shift knob, as used on the 356B and 356C models. By the 1966 model year a round topped shift knob appeared."

    if my information is correct, the mushroom shaped knob with the dimple is correct for the '65 911, as well as the later 356s.

    It is correct for 64/65/MY66 911\912 cars with threaded shifter. Carried over from the 356C
