    Cliff,

Hard to beat original Mahle's. Easy 100k miles before noticeable wear.
Haven't seen many miles yet on new version but they certainly are pretty.

Same price? I would go with tried and true.

Here's a question on this for the experts... Man, I might have ask this before....

I have heard (and seen one set) that all new Mahle (vintage as well) piston sets come now with the newer/later spec thinner 'slipper type' rings... Like 1mm+ thick instead of the period 2mm+ size. When I did my 2.7 rebuild back in '03 Andial was still selling the old wider/thicker ring piston sets.... even on the 9.5 and 10.5 - 90mm RS performance sets.

Is this true? ... Do all new Mahle sets now come with the thinner rings... ?

If it's true, then that would be a difference for the original poster.... not much granted, but different.

I hear the clearances are set the same, with possibly less friction with the thinner/newer set....

    Thanks,
    Chuck

Mahle sets are not made in China at this time ; Mahle reps will come unglued with this accusation . Original Nickasils certainly seemed to wear better than original birals ; but I know there are people with more experience than me about this .
