    Engine bay wiring help.

    With the engine out of the Canary (1969 911T) it's time to clean up the engine bay and wiring. I'm very intimidated by the one year only setup and who knows what other folks have done over the years. I know what half the stuff is but other I'm not sure.

    Here are some pictures with numbers, can you tell me what is what please?

    There are a few diagrams here.

    Unfortunately, I have an E so different than the T. Your engine panel is different than mine but I can take pictures if that's helpful.

    You've done the right thing by taking pictures, follow them when reassembling. Someone has been there before you, many of the wire ends are the low quality SAE type.
    1-2-3 are bulkhead plugs, 4 is a ground wire, if you didn't unplug it and car was working, then may be for previous owner didn't want. 5 wire junction block, not interconnected, 6 fuse panel, 7 may be window defrost relay if you have single stage heating, looks like wire you disconnected when removing engine, got a yellow wire with female spade? 9 tach amplifier, 10 voltage regulator, 11 may be speed transducer for carb over run, 12 fuel pump, 13 and 14 are ground connections, 15 CD box.

    Ive wired a few 69s from scratch this year. In fact I have two in the shop right now. One thing I can tell you is they are not all the same, regardless of what the wiring diagram says.

    15=CDI
    14=ground point
    13=
    12=fuel pump
    11=RPM transducer
    10=voltage regulator
    9=tach amplifier
    8=
    7=Rear window relay
    6=Fuse block
    5=12v
    4=I would like to know that myself.
    3=One of the harnesses for the motor.
    2=Lights switchs etc
    1=Lights switchs etc.

    I am still trying to figure out what #8, the yellow wire was designed to do on a 69 911.

    On my 1969 912, the yellow wire (hangs loose in the engine bay) spins the starter when touched to a hot (red) wire on the left side of the engine compartment. If you turn the ignition key to the run position (red and green lights illuminated on the 'temp.' instrument) and then touch the yellow wire to a hot/powered terminal, you can start a 69 912 from the engine compartment. Big help in the cold with no choke on a 912. Just be sure that the 912 is in neutral when you try this. Don't ask me how I know!

    So far I have not found this trick to work on a 356 so this must be a 911 wiring thing.
