Shipping seats - Greyhound vs. FEDEX

I'm sure moderator will put this thread where it belongs. Just had occasion to ship four seats from NJ to California. FYI if you take seat apart you can get it into Home Depot 22"x 22"x 21.5" box. I used heavy duty boxes. Took one box to FEDEX and it was going to be $81.00. Seller and I decided to try Greyhound. Boxed up a second seat and took both boxes to Greyhound. Charged me $72.00 for each box. Seller said for that small difference go back to FEDEX. Boxed up third and fourth seats and was charge $77.00 and $82.00 dollars A few extra parts added to one box). FEDEX delivers in a week but Greyhound was 7 to 10 days but probably closer to 3 weeks because it was Christmas.

So for me the myth of Greyhound was exploded. Don't know the formula each shipper uses. FEDEX seems to go by weight and size. Greyhound only weight. I have previously (2 years ago) had rear quarters shipped to me and was way cheaper on Greyhound. So my only caveat is wrap it up and try both places. But shipping by Greyhound as the cheapest way may be over. Just saying!

    Doigthom,

That is about what I was quoted from Long Beach CA to Arlington VA.
    (2) seats disassembled and shipped in (1) heavy duty box $170.
That was with the "Box Zone" supplying the box and packaging.

    Thanks,

    Paul Rodelo

I've shipped sport seats and later modern race seats with both and usually if the weight and size is greater greyhound is the
    cheaper easier choice.
When it gets up to fenders, bumpers, and even hoods , greyhound usually will win hands down, you will have to pack and
Cushion with care because vibration alone for three thousand mile trips can be damaging ask me how I know?
I ship coast to coast often from LA to DC and sometimes back again and at this particular time I'm paying the price for
repaint and repair on a perfect 993 Grand Prix White hood just painted for poor packaging on my part...oh well !
    Thanks Bert
