    1970 911 Gas Tank Texture

    Hello

I have been searching threads to find the answer to this question but have not been able to find it. How can I duplicate the grey textured finish on the gas tank? I have an original tank in very good condition as a sample. What I am really trying to achieve is coat the undercarriage in this grey rubberized coating as was original. That being said , I would like to use an epoxy paint like POR 15, as a base coat for the undercoating. Has anybody had any experience as to how the rubberized undercoating sticks to epoxy paint?

Getting down and dirty with the undercarriage. Have not had this much fun in a long time!

Thank you for you help. Hopefully Frank Beck will call me and tell me everything I need to know about doing this ...

Many threads on this but under body I use Wurth SKS. Comes in black. For the gas tank I use Upol because it comes in grey. Wurth SKS in grey isn't available in US. You need to buy the Wurth gun to apply it and practice with it to get the right results. It sticks great to epoxy primer.

What are you using to remove the undercoating? Looks like it's doing the job! I'm getting into it shortly and plan on using a multi-purpose tool that has an oscillating blade.

    Rodger,
Be sure to tint the grey SKS with some green to match the color of the virgin tank surface. (That part near the sway bar).
And when the gun starts shooting the same consistency as what comes out of your nose during a sinus infection you'll know you have your pressure right.
