Those are some great looking 50 year old seats. They look to have 10 square perforations across each pleat while the seats in the photo I posted have 5 perforations across each pleat.

It looks like there was an earlier thread about leather seats for 1968 showing both types.

    https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...-leather-seats

The pictures posted by Fritz Ficke of his car delivered on 21.9.67 have 5 round perforations across each pleat and were the earlier style seat with external headrest mounts. Your seats and the seats of Freezing14 with the integral headrests introduced at the beginning of calendar year 1968 had the 10 perforations. Perhaps the number of perforations was increased along with the other changes in the seat starting at the beginning of 1968.

I don't know of any changes to the roll bar necessitated by the fixed window, but you might find otherwise. The inner roll bar padding has the handle cut outs for the soft windows and these are not present in the part for the fixed window. I would have thought that this would be an additional part rather than an updated part.

My 911S Targa Sportomatic 11850130 is an earlier fixed window from the one in the list, COA attached for your records. I have owned her since 1986 and currently she resides in Athens, Greece.

I have a question about '68 Recaro sport seats. Did "handed" seats ever exist? i.e. Driver seat with LH hinge and passenger seat with RH hinge?

I know the fore-and-aft lever were always on the RH side but what I'm asking about is the reclining hinge which is different.

    Thanks.

    Harryimi,

Brett Johnson determined that the first fixed window 911S Targa was 11850065 completed on October 11, 1967. Your car was completed a little later.

Your car looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing. There were a few 911S targa built with the long-range 100 L tank. One of these, 11850164, was owned by racer Juergen Neuhaus.

Here’s a period factory photo that you might find interesting. It shows a 1968 911S targa fixed window surrounded by Ferdinand Piech, Ferry Porsche, Hans-Peter Porsche and F.A. Porsche.

    Regards,
    Eric

All of these are the first Kardexes in each series that state fixed window. Unless someone tells me otherwise all 1968 fixed window Targas have vertical heating element wires imbedded in the glass and the glass is "green" not clear. The date listed is the invoice date on the Kardex.

I do not know the actual difference in that part -- 901.565.001.40 (early) / 901.565.001.41 (late), but I think it is pretty conclusive that this is when the fixed window option was first offered and something had to have been changed to make them fit. I welcome anyone with superior information to chime in.
