1968 Model Year Changes - month by month

I bought a 1968 911L targa a few years ago so I’ve been collecting data from Kardex files and COAs published on the Web to better understand when the numerous changes occurred during the 1968 model year. Here is a synopsis of when the various models were released and when the model year changes occurred. Please let me know if you have additional information to add and I’ll update this list.

This is great, could you add the VIN's and dates to your list that you collected.

Soft window, Elephant hide, center bar deck lid, aluminum case engine, vinyl headliner (when did they switch to velour?)

Interestingly, my car left the factory on the same day as targa68softback's car. They put the delivery date (10/18/67) on the COA, but the Kardex says it left the factory on 10/13/67.

    I don't understand this:
    04 October 1967 – 1st 911 USA - 11830133
    our COA states:
    27 September 1967 - 11830116
I'm sure there are others earlier.

    Hi Karla,

The table only lists the known earliest cars. Your car is now the earliest known 911 USA, so I've updated the table until an earlier one pops up.

    Hi Eric,
I don't know if this information is helpful but you can add it to your database:
My 911L was completed 23 October 1967 11810218. Delivered to UK so ROW model. Engine no. 3180064/901/07, sportomatic transmission 3180080/905/00. Colour Polo Red 6802. interior is Black with Elephant Hide inserts (COA just says Black Leatherette.
Can one find a copy of the Cardex for a car?
It's great to find as much info about 1968 models as possibles, well done.
    Best wishes
    Graham
