Save your time and unless it's a concur restoration and buy the repops from Sierra Madre. They are around $100 dollars.

Chrome will cost more than the repops.

The problem is you'll have repops. The good thing is thta PCA judges don't know the difference - or care.

All these cars deserve a proper approach. Either leave as is if a driver and original patina or spend the extra $ to make it right.
This is a factory part just like all the other parts and details on the car and where do you stop. Take off all aged parts and trim and install reproduction parts?
Not sure that judges will not know is the issue ......the owner knows the story on each part on the car.

there is good patina and bad patina

anything that looks like acne is bad patina - I vote for repops and save the old parts for a winter project

Agreed that is really bad patina that's why I pose the question of whether or not they can be saved by a good Chrome person

yes - disassemble; clean; fill holes; sand; rechrome

These were saved not by a "good" chrome person.....A great one, Sherm's Custom Chrome, Sacramento. Not cheap. This job was $400, but in 25 years they have never lost or ruined a part. Multiple Oakland Roadster, and Pebble winners.....a lot of Canepa's work. One pays for what one gets....no excuses.Name: image.jpg
