Two pics from my '67 library. Doesn't look like Haul's.

Don't really see any residual "sombrero left on gas tank supports metal. Wish I had better pics.

There's "sombrero" on the gas tank and a little bit of "sombrero" on the trunk floor in front of the gas tank.

Interesting. Thanks all for sharing. Feels like quite an involved procedure. Wonder why they had the sombrero extend to the suspension pan. I know the later thanks were tar sealed. Wonder if it had anything to do with that.

May be for the tire? This way the completely tire is resting on the tar stuff and doesn’t rub anything to bare metal?

Probably, the question is why they did not continue the practice. The later thanks have the pebbled top surface but the finish (schutz) of the fron suspension pan did not change as far as I know. Was the foam seal on the earlier cars also tarred before installation?

Since '67 was painted over with schutz I wonder id Franz's mould could be used. Wax the interior of the mould and then use a couple of coats of Flex Seal hand layered by brush. Only going to be covered up anyway. Who knows. Buy enough Flex Seal and you could also seal all your basement windows and make a row boat too. Also enhance your model railroad scenes.
