How to clean plastic fuel expansion tank...

Since this part is NLA, I'm seeking advice on a product that will hopefully remove/bleach the once opaque white tank (that mounts inside the LEFT front fender for MFI cars) that is more yellow/tan than I would like. I assume most of the discoloration and staining is from the inside from fuel and or fuel vapors for the past 40 years or so. Any ideas if it will even clean up? Thanks!

I have cleaned similar parts with household bleach. Proceed with caution and try small areas first.

Ed may be correct on how to clean it up, but
if it was mine and wasn't cracked I wouldn't touch it.

Thanks guys...just to clarify, I believe the discoloration/staining is inside, so that is where I am looking to attack the problem (i.e. bleach as Ed suggested). Cleaning the outside has been done. I admit to not being a 'patina' guy...prefer everything to be as crisp looking as possible .

I am interested in your results. I will be facing the same issue in my '70E project. Before and after pics would be great.

I been told that these are in the works to be reproduced (proper white plastic) p/n 911 201 073 00. So new ones should hit the market in a few months through the usual channels, just an FYI

I have a few original samples as well and all are discolored and or falling apart so I'm in the same boat as you guys on my restoration.

If it is dirt, bleach or a cleaning solution might help - if the plastic has yellowed, there is no way to reverse the process.

Try Spray Nine. It's alcohol based and safe for plastics. It will whiten it as best it can be whitened.
