    Installing 901 Shift Knob

Searched the forum but did not see a topic-specific answer to my question -- when reinstalling my shift knob, should the crush shift spacer be first placed way up inside the knob and the knob then pushed on to the shift rod; or should you place the crush spacer at the outside end of the hole in the knob, and then push the knob/spacer on to the shift rod? Thanks,

    Bob

Your two methods seem to be six one way, half a dozen the other.....

Either way works, don't pound on the knob, push like hell ( if it's a new crush ring) and a twist should do it.

Thanks -- thought, perhaps, there would be more to it.

The crush sleeve should be inserted into the knob and into the recessed space made for it.
Any other way and you will crack the knob!
You can feel the space inside the knob with your finger.

This helps a lot -- I had felt inside the knob, and noticed that it expanded further in so your added info makes sense. So, procedure seems to be 1) to push the sleeve up as far as possible into the knob, 2) slide the knob with sleeve already inside over the end of the gear shaft, then 3) push really hard with your hand to drive the knob/sleeve on to the end of the gear shaft, and finally 4) twist the knob to line it up properly -- are these the recommended steps and processes? Thanks,

    Bob
