My guess is that it is the same car. The lower picture with the guy sitting over the gas door would be probably the older picture. That picture shows the car with painted KPZ wheels with "No crest" hubcaps produced by Lemmerz in March of 1963 (date stamp 3/63). The picture with the woman (I like that one much better than the one with guy) shows the funny gas filler door and chrome wheels (probably made by Lemmerz) and the same hub caps as the other picture. Those hubcaps are the first batch of hubcaps for disc brake wheels and were replaced with hubcaps with crests in April of 63. Every "no crest" hubcap that is not a fake has a date stamp of 3/63. The front turn signal lenses are weird and probably are "pre production" dummies. Those hubcaps only came on very early 356Cs made in late 1963.

    Regards

    The "Guy" is Butzi Porsche...

And I also think this is the same car, and the picture with Butzi is older than the one with the woman.

Yep, the horn grille has an added bar! Porsche was experimenting with these as well.

    Its 13321.

There exists conflicting info (in english literature) that its a 902 prototyp but its actually the very first 901 prototyp.
Built in September 1962. It had first a 356 rear suspension and 356 S90 engine, later a 901 six cyl.unit and newer suspension typ. Note the unique circular gas flap. By 1963 it was not running but could only be pushed, was used for presentations, later seen for windtunnel tests. Reported as being factory destroyed in Early 1965.

Cover car of Panorama issue October 1963 as well as Road&Track issue December 1963.
Also used for the first 901 promo literature.

Btw the car on post 6 w plate S-SK 725 is prototyp 13323, built 1963, darkblue.

I understand the original plan for the 901 was to have the 356SC engine as the base model 901. I might have read this in The 901 Book. Has anyone else read this?

901/911 was always planned to have a 6 cylinder engine (had to be as powerful as the 356 Carrera "Fuhrmann" engine).
While first presented at IAA Frankfurt 1963, the 901's (chassis 13325 yellow w "Typ 901 plate") higher price (almost 7000 DM more) re the older 356 models was critisized and it was later decided that the firm had to offer a 4 cyl equipped base 901, called 902/912.

Decision to build a 902 was made on June 15th 1964 and the first 902/912 prototyp had chassis 13330, ready by October 1964.
13330 had a prototyp 902 engine installed (1.582 litre-similar to the 356 engine typ 616), this 902 prototyp engine had already similar layout to the later used 616/36 unit of the 912's. Modification of this unit made that it had only 90hp, 5hp less than a comparable 356 unit. However, the engine was more robust then older 356 engines, especially at full speed.

The 902 prototyps (at least two 902 prototyps are documented - 13330 was the first) were all produced by Karmann, reason why later also Karmann built first only 912's and no 911's on its production line.

In December 1964 (the 901/911 was already on sale), major details of the planned 912 were defined (3 instruments, no wood on dashboard, steering wheel, 4 speed etc), its sale price needed to be similar to the older 356 C model.

On April 1965, the 912 was presented in "Europa" version, its specs were not yet adapted to the US/UK market.
Once marketed, the 912 was priced as about 1/4 (16250 DM) less of the price of a 911 (21900 DM).
By the end of 1965, sales of the 912 were more than double (6401 units) of 911 sales, most 912 were sold in the US.
