Thread: Rear license aluminum panel for '71. Holes for frame.... ??

Rear Aluminum License Panel for '71. Where do holes go?

Quick question... on the aluminum panel for the license plate area... it obviously is supposed to hold the license plate and frame. I'm familiar with the "H" style holder that mounted to the rear bumpers on the 911's in the late 70's & 80's.
I'm restoring a '71S, but I can't see how a license plate or frame would attach to its rear panel. I also have a '69 (which I thought I could look at & copy) but its rear panel has a slightly different look to it & holes were already in the 69's rear panel. It was very simple to screw the "H" style holder to it, then mount the license frame & plate to it.
Would anyone have a photo of the correct holder ("H" style?) that attaches to the rear
panel which holds the license plate & frame? Gracias!! ;o)

Awesome Jim! Thanks. I've seen that one before on the Porsche websites, for sale. I just didn't put two & two together. hehe

Was wondering if that's the correct placement for the mounting holes on the panel, or were they just drilled by the dealer wherever it made sense? I've seen them above and below the H, though mostly above for the ones I looked at.

They were drilled wherever the dealer decided, using what ever frame was available. In the case of the panel above, the dealer must have let his 8 year old son drill the holes. Once the plate is installed, no one will notice that it is way off center, though.

LOL! I figured they must've been drilled in Germany around October.

The 8-year-old was hard at work. Clearly these were just eyeballed.

By a one-eyed 8 year old! ;o) ...after attending Octoberfest.

At least there's appears to be some sort of consistency. Mine are both drilled off center, towards the passenger side of the car too.
