I suspect the new reality is right around the corner:
One has their Sunday-go-to-meetin' front signal lenses and THESE. Brought out like fine china only for special dinner guests.
I've heard rumors that seller is very shrewd.
The payment plan option is nice...$73 a month for 2 years!! for a set of plastic lenses...

image.jpgParts experts, I'm interested to know...Is it just the silver rimmed ones that are sought after or are the model year 1973-only black rimmed European ones with raised Bosch lettering similarly hens teeth and sought after? I have this new pair (the Bosch boxes have not even been opened still with factory paper tape seal intact both ends)
Just wondering if these parts command similar price to silver trim ones on eBay (whatever figure that final figure turns out to be) and if so do I need to lock them in a safe tonight.
Right on Frank. As much as I'd love this awesomeness on the front end of my ST build it doesn't quite add up on a car I intend to drive and drive hard. I can't see myself swapping these out with some generic repops before a spirited drive for fear of a rock chip or crack. These beauties will find their way on the right car I'm sure. I just wish they were $5-600; I'd do that....

I suspect NOS silver edged ones are always going to be a premium over black edged and fronts are always a premium over rears. So, the seller has the blue chip item.

Thanks Mike.
Not arguing since I don't know (and actually not concerned on lower value since no plans to sell my "fine china" black rim spare set) just curious what drives this differential in pricing - Why are silver considered premium over black edged version
Latter lens were obviously one year only deal after silver ended MY 72 but before G series body introduced changes so maybe fewer cars need them but presumably fewer replacement spares were made by Bosch given the more limited application?
Edit: thank goodness my car only takes the cheap common 73 black rim version, might just be able to afford to replace it if a plastic front lens gets broken.

I think black edged Italian lenses are hard to find and pretty expensive.

I think, because black edged carried on in production for many years, you will find a lot of pre 74 cars with post 73 lenses.
I think, because there are much fewer silver edged MY's compared to pre and post 73 black edged MY's, manufacturers of reproduction lenses see a much bigger market if they make black.
I think, because you can modify silver into black far easier than black into silver, more silver edged will have been changed.
I think, because hot rodders, special wish, bright pre 73 coloured cars, have owners that think black is 'cooler'.
I think, because they are fragile, original silver edged lenses will have been changed out for black once silvered edged lens stocks became exhausted in the later 70's and 80's.
I think, because restorations in the 80's and 90's weren't so fussy about 'details' as we are now.
I have changed my mind about the sellers item. The 'blue chip' item in the pre 74 lwb era would be a Pair of NOS silver edged front Italian lenses.
Edit: I wrote this before I saw Steve's reply. I have two sets of black Italian front lenses (NFS) but I have yet to find a silver pair.
