Thread: Paint Code Plate install

    Paint Code Plate install

What is the best way to install/re-install the little plate on front of door jamb. It was suggested to snip off the long end of the tiny rivets and glue the 4 heads to the plate and then glue the plate to the car. Any better way to do this?

I have (or had) rivets to install frame tags on motorcycles. The shank has a twist like a sheet-metal or wood screw.

I have used glue to attach the rivets on two different cars and it worked quite nicely and looks good.
I think it's helpful to leave the rivets intact and just push them through the hole with a dab of superglue or Clear epoxy.
I have another question for anybody, is how to remove the plate and the rivets . I have a car that's going to go into metal restoration and the plate is in perfect condition and I would like to remove it prior to media blasting the car. Any suggestions? Looks like it would be difficult to drill the rivets out. sorry about hijacking your thread.

LiveFromNY, did you use a rivet gun and bucking bar, or are these simply tapped into the sheet metal? Is it even possible to get to the backside?

Sorry. Wish I could but the car was just put away for the year. Suffice to say that it looks just like any other paint tag.

Just tapped in with a small punch and a hammer. No idea how you'd get to the backside absent major surgery.
