    1970S rear lid alloy...with Airconditioning

I believe that all 1970S standard had a alloy rear deck lid at least from what I have reading so far. Is there any science or knowledge that 1970S cars with the Behr airconditioning ordered by the factory if they had an alloy rear deck lid as well? I was reading that people described that the alloy lid is very thin and weak and easy to dent so with the air cooler hanging under it would even be worse? Were the cars with airco also fitted with Alloy lid or did the factory fitted these cars with the standard steel lid?

    Thanks and regards Govert

    Factory installed?

My 70S had a A/C system, but dealer installed. The alu lid did not seem to suffer from the extra weight it had carried for approx 30 years, but removed it because no need for A/C here and to save some weight.

Yes, my 1971 S had factory air (and per COA) and still had the heavy cooler on it. Fortunately, no issues with the aluminum lid. Plan to reinstall with modern system after car running and sorted. Hopefully in year #5 of restoration, 2017 !! Good luck !! George Kehler

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.
