This is not a factory foglight switch. The knob has the wrong insert but the switch function is the same. The red insert means hazard light. Not too long ago, the correct insert was available.

These are the US knobs, EU are different. 71-911T is probably correct, but I need to check to be sure.

I don't think you are correct about that. However, the handwritten labeled light switches above are LWB. For short wheelbase the switches are different. Here is a red hazard light and to its right the correct switch with a little lighted "dot" in the middle for driving lights. I've forgotten what the correct SWB switch is for fog lights but it MIGHT be a large green dot, like the red for hazard, except green of course. Thanks.

Model year 73 cars in UK / continental Europe( RoW?) do not have those or any graphics shown in the illustration ... as far as I have observed. As with other things, country markets / country equipment specifications differ -- cannot generalise.

(As a side note the difference in knobs is in various part books and in other literature e.g. The headlight - but unfortunately not foglight - switch is photographed in the two different English language versions of the very large format 72/3 colour brochure. Presumably British/ROW vs US versions. Superficially similar brochures but some different photos and upon closer inspection actually different English spelling - British-English vs US-English)

The European specification switches for that model year 73 are IMO neater and simpler without garish graphics or fat grip ring.

The original poster's switch is certainly different from my production date 12/72 MY 73 car's foglight switch. Light in centre is different (size and colour) as are other details.

Might be for other years or geographies?

My U.S. 73 911 T has the green switch as in Allen's diagram.

LWB EU and UK knobs are indeed neater like on page 14 of this German manual. http://content.us.porsche-clubs.pors..._Optimized.pdf
I have an Italian 11/72 MY 73 with the same knobs as in this manual. The foglight switch I have added is like number 9 in the manual. The part sold above is what I have seen as a hazard switch in SWB cars. I am not sure but I think my foglight switch has orange/red in the middle. Might be green. Going to sleep first as it is 2:20 am over here :-).

The "simpler" European knobs basically are SWB knobs. The SWB knobs can be made LWB (U.S.) by the addition of the rubber surround. This surround, I believe, was mandated by U.S. officials looking out for our safely (aren't "they" wonderful!) Here is the page from the PDF manual mentioned. Thanks.
