Nice pair of belts. No rust on the latch mechanisms. Dated 1970, so correct for late 70 or 1971. Missing one tag. Really nice pair of belts.

Would appreciate some input here....I just ordered a set of belt tags for my October 69 build (1970 MY 2.2) car, and since I don't have any original tags asked STRETCH what he thought would be correct, i.e. 1969 or 1970 dated tags. He understands 1970 tags to be correct for any 2.2 car and points to his own September 1969 built car as an example. In seeing CORNPANZER's note that 1970 dated tags would only be correct for a late 70/early71 car I am second guessing what i just ordered. Thoughts please.
Your Oct. 1969 built car (1970 Model Year) should have 1969 seatbelt tags.
I disagree, but gave MAC73s the choice. Having bought, sold and restored around 100 sets in the last couple of years, i wouldn't get hung up on seat belt dates as Porsche mixed and matched whatever they had regarding dated tongues etc.

My 1Jan build 70S had 69 tags. IMO, a MY 1970 could have either 69 or 70 depending on the REPA delivery of materials leading the production of the completed cars.

Well, I'm going to disagree with Stretch.. While I wouldn't fret about the dates on the tongue castings, the date tags are a different matter. REPA as most safety belt companies of that time were required to identify the belts by at a minimum, the year of manufacture. Belts that they manufactured and shipped out the door up until Dec 31st of 1969 were likely tagged 1969. They would not have been tagging them as 1970 prior to Jan 1, 1970.
So IMO there is no way that a REPA belt tagged as 1970 was ever found in a car that Porsched rolled off the line in Oct. of 69 because REPA was not yet dating them as such.. Depending on the size of Porsche's orders to support a moving production line, 1969 tagged belts would have carried over into the MY 70 cars like the belts in my Jan 1 build 70S. Likely the same for the early MY 71 cars.
Now what I think would be interesting to determine is the belt dating for the 72 MY cars as the belt materials changed along with the latch mechanisms. So, were any early MY 72 cars delivered with the earlier belts or did they have the new belts with 71 date tags???
