Looking for Wisdom -- Should I Replace the Leather in My Horn Button?

I have a nice wooden steering wheel with a batwing horn. The leather horn button is no longer 'puffy' but considering its age, it is perfectly presentable. I have had the batwing re-finished and the chrome surround re-chromed, but part of me wants to put the old leather button back on, just ... because....

So, I seek the wisdom of the community ... I have new leather. What say ye?

If the leather is in good condition, why not just replace the foam and restore it's puffiness?

My thoughts as well. If the leather is bit too "worn" for your taste, why not a little dye job on it? I'm also against a new piece of leather as I think you might find it will be too thick to fit where the original was (based on the repro leather pieces I've seen and the original leather pieces I have).

I have not separated the horn leather from the steel to see what foam should be used, but these are good suggestions. I don't recall the leather being in bad shape, and the dye suggestion might be very productive.

    thank you.
