    New owner: '67 911S SWT

Just this past week I bought a '67 911S SWT here in Seattle in Polo Red with black vinyl. I came across the car at a local car show a couple of years ago and followed up with the owner every few months. To my surprise last week he said, "Sure it's time to move on as we're downsizing to an apartment." He's had the car since 1970 -- so 46 years! I believe it's almost entirely original including paint and interior, engine, etc numbers match, etc. It has some rock chips on the front and a few some dents on the doors but that's it. He's never stored it; drove it as a normal car for the first 5 or so years then it became a 'use on nice days' for the next 40. Always kept under a cover and garaged. Originally bought in Hollywood from Bob Smith Porsche and purportedly owned by Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel. Would love to find a photo of him and car! His manager's name is on the maintenance records. Came with the books, tools, tonneau, two sets of keys etc -- even a nice fob that he thought came with it new.

So, a couple questions to verify it's originality:

    1. I read that then rocker trim on an S is wider? How wide?
    2. Paint under the rear engine compartment vent should be satin black for certain years/types?
    3. Any other spots I should look to see if it's original? It doesn't have its original FUCHs as he said it was scary to drive at speed so he got the wider version when he first got it... and has no idea where the original went!
    4. I have a photos of it when it was only 3 years old (the day he brought it home) -- it had the white script along the sides but he said in 5-6 years they started falling off so he removed them. I'm a 'preservation freak' so would have just left it, but I get it. I see there are reproductions out there now and I may add them back. Are there 'better ones/ more realistic' to get? And was the script an option from the PORSCHE factory or did dealers just add it for an extra cost? And just USA cars?
    5. It has a wood steering wheel (which is HUGE!) but the brochures (the original brochures they used to buy the car came with it (has pen marks that align with the car), including paint colors, accessories brochure, Porsche Air brochure (it doesn't have AIR) say the wood wheel was an option but the COA doesn't list it as an option?
    6. It has a Bursch exhaust which I think maybe too loud... and he also gave me a Abarth... thinking of going back to stock: is that crazy?
    7. It's got some paint damage under the front bumper and I'd like to put a front plate on it but there are no holes there... the owner said he use to have a bracket that fit up there somehow... can anyone point me to the piece(s) I'd need?
    8. I know you can get 'black plates' new now in CA but I just want to get a replica of the original black plate (it is long gone...). Anyone know how to do that? Would also like to find a nice BOB SMITH license plate surround.

I'm sure I'll have billions more question. Oh ya, it's a blast to drive!

Welcome to the early 911S campfire. You have good taste in Porsches. Post up a few photos of the areas you are concerned with, there are many here who can help. I would go to an original exhaust, there is a factory front license plate set up, the side script would also have been on the COA, S trim is different from normal. I would also try to find the original type 41/2 Fuchs for originality even if you just store them. Try the search function here most of your questions will be covered.

    Congratulations Greg
I am just across the lake from you. If you ever want to store it close by and away from your own garage there is a great guy in Redmond who stores and races Porsches. I keep my 67S there.

Nice car!-- The most authentic side script is from Bob Tilton. It is the perfect size font. He is a member here. Regards Chris
