    Oil Tank, ??? please advise

I just picked this up and did a preliminary cleaning of all the crud. Does anyone know what this is for and why the area the sender would mount is holeless (is that a word?)

    Thanks

Likely a lowly '68 T with no oil level gauge mandated by the Porsche bean counters that year.

it would appear that you have a SWB oil tank, based on the curved leading edge.

as the others suggested, the lack of a hole for the float indicates that the car came with an idiot light, instead of a oil level gauge.

however, i am not sure that i recognize the rubber fitting next to the oil filter pedestal.

The rubber fitting is for the oil filler neck and dipstick. Definitely a SWB tank for car without the optional gauge.
