It may look good, but "loose" is not fast, especially at a place like Spa!

I think that there are two sideway clips.

One is a qualiflying lap, the other a race lap.

That short clip is this one. It's my favorite ringtone

Loose is indeed not fast but I think we are seeing something different here. Unlike the American idea of drifting I think this is very controlled and is the more common way a car will react when raced with bias ply tires. Unlike radial tires which grip, grip, grip and then let loose, bias ply tires will slide around more and let you know what the car is doing. In an odd way this makes bias plys more interesting when learning how to drive a 911 on the track.

I vintage race with a guy who drives exactly like this. Making passes he shouldn't, dropping tire off turns and spitting stones onto the cars behind him, aggressive.
When I see him coming, I lift and wait for him to get the hell away from me. Probably why he looks like he's so much faster than everyone else, too.

loose is not fast... I understand. Ive done track days for over 20 yrs......I just think he enjoys this style, and is comfy w/ his steed. its fun to watch......big attachments for sure, as D Hobbs would say.

I run Dunlop bias ply race rubber on a 72 BMW...and they are a joy to slide around....

Different tires produce maximum grip at different slip angles. In general modern race rubber peaks at lower slip angles. Depends somewhat on whether bias or radial.

I can see your point. Has he bumped other cars , been black flagged or slid off the track?
Are you worried about rock chips or getting hit??
I raced against a Cali guy in a Lotus who was as you described but he was also a very good driver, fast and safe.
They race very different in Europe. Our vintage races are full of ....oh never mind.
