Thread: NGK spark plug gapping required?

    NGK spark plug gapping required?

Pardon what might be a stupid question as I've seen some different answers but is it necessary to gap NGK BP7ES plugs for a 2.2 engine? If so, what gap setting would be ideal for a stock 2.2S engine?

    Thanks!

Depends on your ignition system. 1mm-1.5mm with MSD.

Thanks John- my car has the standard CDI so I'm guessing it would be different?

If expending the labor necessary to replace a set of spark plugs I can't imagine skipping the simple step assuring that the gaps are correct.

I think the reason the OP is asking is that a lot of modern plugs come pre-gapped for convenience. Use 0.028" to 0.032"

If I'm not mistaken the 250 P21 is the old style platinum, don't think they were out yet in 66. I first recall them being used with the first MFI motors.
