Someone must have done this. Any assistance is appreciated before I damage something (usually myself).

Pretty straight forward....the posted link helps with the sequence of washers and buffers.
The hard part is generally getting the threaded cap off.....I've seen them butchered with chisels and channel locks. Ideally you need a two pin spanner, fixed span or adjustable, to loosen the cap.
Don't forget to add about 30cc of motor oil to the strut before closing up with the new insert.

Thanks, Mark. Perhaps I'm missing something, but how do I get the old insert out of the strut housing so I can replace it with a new one? I can see a multi-faced piece of metal on the housing that appears to hold the insert in the strut housing. I've attempted to unscrew it, but I haven't yet gotten it to move/rotate. And I don't want to damage anything.

The new stut should come with a new nut. A two pin adjustable spanner worked for one of mine, but I had to go hard on the second one with a monkey wrench and a 2' pipe....
I used anti freeze in the strut, as that is what Koni recommended.
As far as new struts go, I can't rate these guys highly enough.

It unscrews from the top of the housing. A big hammer and screwdriver in one of the notches. Make sure the housing is secure in a vice. Really pretty simple as in you will wonder how you didnt see it before, ( at least that's how I felt when I replaced my inserts) Good luck.
Now that I think of it I think used a pipe wrench with a long piece of pipe on the handle for leverage, forget the hammer and screwdriver idea. You still need to secure it in a vice.
Also forgot to mention that its filled with oil that will start spilling out so you might want to have something under it to catch the oil.

Is this for the Yellow targa or another car. Should be Boge. No Koni on '67S Targa

The threaded cap is always VERY tight...especially if they've never been opened. That's why trying to use a chisel on the notches or channel locks seldom does nothing but trash the cap. The two pin spannner....even with an extension like a piece of pipe is the best.
It's just simple threads, but always TIGHT.
