    Tunnel carpet removal for shifter

Before I make a mess- what is the best way to get to the shifter in a 1969 911S to replace bushings? I have a rattling sound through the shifter and I'm thinking it is the bushing in the tunnel (does '69 have one?) and the ball socket in the shifter.

I replaced the bushings in the shifter connector in the back seat area and that is great- But now I want to finish up.

Yep, you need to remove the tunnel carpet, and while you're in there I'll bet you need the throttle rod bushings. In fact that may be your rattle.

If you are lucky the seat rails aren't bolted down over the tunnel carpet. Remove the shift knob and boot and the rest is obvious. Don't tear the handbrake boot.
