    Unusual perplexing Engine marking

Doing some research for a friend. We have the engine out of a 67 soft window targa. the car Vin appears correct - 50xxxx, the engine type stamp is correct - 911/06 for a non-S soft window. But the engine S/N is very perplexing. It reads *911912*. The stars and font and all look very correct with no signs of molestation.

To our knowledge this is the original engine from a car that otherwise looks "normal". The number stamp is on the "back" of the casting rib as would be correct for an early aluminum case, but the numbers????

    Anyone have any thoughts?? Thanks

I know of a non s 67 targa engine #912031, so I would say it looks good, but need to obtain certificate of authenticity to verify

Hmmm...never really considered that it might be correct and just coincidentally odd. I guess I was expecting a 6xxxxxx number.

Check the thread on the Technical Forum Type 901/xx Engine Build #'s, It includes:

    901/06 911876 8869
    901/02 962026 8895 205
    901/02 962062 8953

    901/06 911920 8965
    901/02 962082 8987
    901/06 911930 8993

So, 911912 is in this range, 911930's also kind of cool.

By the way, what's your engine's build number?
