    Is a partial engine drop necessary to replace oil pressure sender

    Is it necessary to partially drop engine to replace
    the oil pressure sender?

    I have tried but failed. I just could not get a good angle on the nut. The nut is directly under a bell shaped housing on the oil pressure sender thus requiring that the wrench be almost flush with the top of the
    engine. Of course, with the wrench so low (even a jointed wrench) that it can't turn bc of the many parts of the top of the engine that are not flush (manifold,carb,etc). Is there a trick to removing the old sender?

    You just need a crow foot wrench, 6" extension, and ratchet handle,,,,3/8 drive is fine.

    You may find it works better if you bend an open-end wrench.

    Get yourself an el cheapo Heyco BMW toolkit wrench off Ebay and bend the 17mm end up in a vise about two inches back from the end. That will allow you to loosen the sender. For the block it threads into that can be a socket, don't forget new crush washers both aluminum (for adapter fitting) and a copper one between the sender and the adapter fitting.

    I live in a apartment building without a workbench
    or a vice. I will have to try the crowsfoot wrench with
    extension. Thanks for the help.
